Should I Tip The Groomer?
A very common question we are asked in the grooming industry is in regard to “Tipping". Is it customary to tip? How much should I tip? Which do you prefer, cash or on card?
These are all great questions. As with any other service industry, tipping is optional but always welcomed with gratitude. Keep in mind also, that the amount you pay to get your Canine Best Friend groomed, bathed, nails trimmed, etc., primarily pays for the upkeep of the groomer’s equipment (clippers, scissors, nail clippers, etc.), their supplies (shampoos, conditioners, bows, neckerchiefs, sprays, oils, etc.) and other fees (rent, water, electricity, HVAC, etc.). After the deductions for their overhead, the groomer only retains a small portion of each appointment fee. So, any tip they receive above that when you pay for their service, is greatly appreciated and a well-received “Thank you for your time and services” gesture from their clients.
Here in the United States, the general rule of thumb for tipping your groomer, is to tip a much as you would your hair stylist, wait staff, or anyone else in the service and hospitality industries. Generally, it is customary to tip 15-25% of the total service. While the choice for payment method is up to you, everyone in these industries wants you to know cash is always preferred.
Yes, you may tip your groomer.
